  • Member since December 14 2009 Rebecca As an actual southerner living in California, I am not happy with anything this restaurant does. Lucille’s sells you the idea of the South and southern cooking without actually delivering the goods. The décor is tacky Americana at its best (or worst, depending on how you look at it), making you feel like you should be line dancing or chasing a greased pig while you wait for the dinner bell. The food looks good and smells good, but is really lacking in taste. Good southern meals are supposed to kick you in the mouth with a balance sugar, salt, and spice. Lucille’s, though, ALWAYS makes me feel like I’ve consumed half the total yearly output of a sugar plantation. Despite all the sins this chain has committed to southern foods, the Torrance location is inexplicably packed almost every night. If you know and love southern cooking as I do, please refrain from going to this restaurant.

Choosing The Right Restaurant

wine glass with flowersWho doesn’t like to go out to eat? Restaurants give a consumer the opportunity to break away from the mundane routine of cooking meals at home. The right restaurant should not only excite you with the culinary prowess, but make you want to return. What makes restaurants the premier spots for consumers? Several factors should be included when choosing the right restaurant.

Ethnicity

Restaurants range from Ethiopian to American to Italian and every country in between. Every nation has its own specialties. Steer away from restaurants claiming to provide authentic cuisine. To truly be authentic, the chefs should have trained in this particular country or their lineage is traced to the country in question. If lineage is traceable, how long have the chefs been cooking in this particular style?

Also be aware of regional ethnic foods. For instance, American food is not the same across the board. Southern barbeque is prepared differently than eastern North Carolina barbeque. The difference is in the sauce.

Restaurant rating

A large percentage of restaurants have been rated. Either online or professional reviews are readily available. Be cautious of generic reviews on restaurants. With the vast information on the internet, someone doesn’t actually have to frequent a restaurant to actually write a review. Look for clues which will lead toward authenticity.

Verify sources as well. Call the restaurant and check if certain dishes are offered. Ask if the décor mentioned in the reviews are accurate. If not, the source is not authentic and shouldn’t be trusted.

Price

Depending on the type of cuisine and the location, a restaurants pricing will vary. If the consumer wants authentic ethnic food in a metropolitan city, chances are the price is going to be in the five star ranges. On the flip side, consumers wanting a value, restaurants which are franchises are more appropriate. Franchises tend to be along the same price structure across the board.

Word of mouth

How does a restaurant thrive? Restaurants generate business initially by word of mouth. If the consumer enjoys the food, they will tell their friends and family. The same is true if consumers have poor experiences in restaurants.

Restaurants are just like every other business. They are providing a service which in turn will generate sales. Choosing the right restaurant is critical to the consumer as well as the restaurant.
