We have all been there at one time or another. We have to move, and the reasons vary; job transfer, bought a new home, lease is up, etc. It always comes down packing everything you own into boxes, and you usually end up finding out that you have more stuff than you ever thought you did. When it's spread throughout the home it doesn't seem like it is that much.
So what are the most important steps to successful packing?
- Step 1: Start early. If you know that you are going to move a month before you actually move, start packing then. Don't wait. You can pack up the things that you don't need every day.
- Step 2: Go through your things and get rid of anything that can be thrown away.
- Step 3: Have a yard sale! If you don't use it, get rid of it.
- Step 4: Start with the things that you don't use every day and pack them away. Be sure to mark the boxes with what is in the box and if it's fragile.
- Step 5: If you had some things that were already in boxes and stored away, make sure these boxes are still good. If they are not, then repack them. The last thing you want is to pick up a box that falls apart.
- Step 5: Stay organized. It is so easy for things to get out of control. Keep everything organized by room.
- Step 6: As you get closer to the time to leave, pack more of the things that you have been using until you have everything packed the day before the move.
- Step 7: Moving day!
The most important things to remember are to keep organized, pack what you don't use everyday first and don't wait till the last minute if you can avoid it.
