How to Find Cheap Internet

Just about everyone that owns a computer utilizes the internet in some way. The internet is a great communications and information tool. The price of the internet, however, can be very expensive if you don't know what you're doing. Your local cable company is going to try and get you to buy the top of the line connection when you may not need it. There are several ways that you can save money on your internet connection.

  • Step One: Evaluate your connection. You need to figure out exactly what type of internet connection you have. If you're buying internet from your local cable company or telephone company, it's likely that you're using a broadband connection. You need to figure out exactly what speed your connection is and how much you're paying before moving forward.
  • Step Two: Contact your current provider. It's likely that if you're paying for broadband internet, you're probably paying for the top-of-the-line connection. Even though the guy that sold you the internet said you needed it, you really don't. Any broadband speed is going to be good enough for surfing the web and sending email, which is what most people do at their home. If you're a gamer, you may want to stick with the higher speed to reduce lag, but for the average internet user, the bottom of the line connection is going to be fine.
  • Step Three: Explore other options. If you're getting your service from the local cable company, check out the prices over at the telephone company for DSL internet as opposed to cable. If you're using DSL, do the exact opposite and call the cable company. Either one may be able to offer you a deal on your internet, so you'll save money.
  • Step Four: turn to dialup. It may sound ancient, but dialup internet still exists. The best thing about it, though, is that it's dirt cheap. You can get a dialup internet connection for as little as $5 per month through companies like NetZero. Of course, there are different speeds of dialup as well, but even the most expensive package will be much cheaper than the lowest priced broadband package.

There are several options for being able to find cheap internet service, you just need to know where to look. Chances are if you're paying too much for your internet, there's going to be a cheaper plan you can switch to. If not, call your local cable or telephone company and try to make a switch. If that doesn't work, you can always turn to dialup. Either way, you're going to be saving quite a bit of money on your internet service.
