Ask any attorney about TV shows and you'll see them grit their teeth or smile sickly. These people go to school for eight years in order to learn to defend victims. They know how corporations can cheat employees, how people slip and fall to become victims, how victims of auto accidents become more victimized. These people study how to highlight shady practices that cause people to lose everything they have. Lawyers learn all that because usually they've seen a loved one suffer and vow not to let that happen again.
An attorney never finishes school. He studies new laws, Supreme Court rulings and updates on other things pertaining to the law. He keeps abreast of things that color his world such as social commentary, possible business world or political winds that blow, sometimes even religious positions can influence a case. If that's not enough, an attorney can't enjoy a social occasion for he has to network constantly in order to keep up on what's current. His mind must be sharp at all times lest he miss something that could keep someone out of prison.
So when someone needs an attorney because they've lost everything to a scammer or had identity theft happen to them, they look at the lawyer and don't know what to expect. They expect to see someone like those on TV because a lot of lawyers advertise on TV to get business. But a lot of people don't get that far, thinking they cannot afford an attorney. Don't lawyers get hundreds of dollars an hour for their efforts? We don't have that kind of money! No? Think again. Most attorneys don't charge both arms and a kneecap nor do they hold out a hand for up-front money. Most attorneys work with people, realizing not everyone is rich.
An attorney is just another guy (or gal) with a job to do. He went to college to learn how to do it and then he hung out a shingle and did it. Most lawyers have scruples and principles, neither of which will be compromised if they can help it. Even people on TV are just guys with a job.
