Franklin's Barbecue is just as famous for its line as for its delicious BBQ — sometimes customers wait up to 3 hours to order brisket, pork, sausage, turkey, ribs and more.
And if you decide to wait in line, you must not do so in vain. You must order the Tipsy Texan sandwich at this legendary Austin joint.
The Tipsy Texan is a mouthwatering, decadent concoction. The sandwich consists first of a simple bun, pickles and onions. Its meat base is a heaping pile of brisket, which is smoked for hours on site. Added to that is a juicy pork and beef sausage that's smoked for about an hour. And finally a handful of coleslaw tops off the sandwich, which by now is enormous. It's going to get messy, but it's worth it.
"It's like barbecue on steroids," says chef Marc Murphy.
The rest of the menu is pretty Spartan, but delectable none the less: In addition to meats by the pound, there's your basic barbecue sandwiches, potato salad, coleslaw, beans, as well as four different kinds of pies.
